The Gardens

Our award winning gardens are a highlight of the LeGrand Dixcart B&B experience.

As any visitor will attest to, the gardens on Sark are a huge part of the island’s charm. The gorgeous spectacle of the flowers are just the beginning at Le Grand Dixcart.

The garden began with raised vegetable beds that supplied the homestead, with spare produce supplying Stocks Hotel next door. It has now grown into a highly productive area, with more raised beds, the addition of the beautiful Cedar Greenhouse and cultivation of the apple orchard. In 2013 the unique Permaculture Garden was created, which supplies vegetables and cut flowers for Le Grand Dixcart B&B and beyond. The garden is also home to a flock of chickens that supply an abundance of fresh eggs, and, most recently, a hive of bees.

In 2018 we were thrilled to have been part of the winning Sark Island Entry for the Guernsey Britian in Bloom competition, and our gardens achieved an award for Horticultural Excellence in their own right. The garden is included in the National Gardens Scheme. During the day you will often come across members of the garden team, headed up by James, the head gardener.

For those that would like more, we offer garden tours that have become a firm favourite for guests. The tours take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons and are reserved via the Stocks Hotel reception desk next door to Le Grand Dixcart.
